Shigeru Ban: The Paper Log House at The Glass House
What’s Happening
A collaboration between an international architecture firm, a National Trust Historic Site, an architecture school, and a design agency, Shigeru Ban’s original design for the Paper Log House constructed in Kobe, Japan in 1995 will be be on view April 15th through December 15th 2024. The 14 by 14-foot enclosure is made of paper tubes, wood and milk crates, and has been deployed to provide temporary housing for victims of disaster across five continents over the last 30 years. Supported by The Japan Foundation, New York and other sponsors, the structure was fabricated and assembled by several dozen architecture students in collaboration with Shigeru Ban Architects’ New York team on March 18th and 19th 2024. Aside from responding to urgent crises in Hawaii, this is the first time that the Paper Log House is being shown in North America since 2018.
